Bishop-Emeritus of Novaliches Teodoro Bacani Jr., urge
churchgoers to name their new-born children after Kian Lloyd Delos Santos
during an afternoon special mass on Tuesday.
The 77-year old Catholic leader said that the slain teen
should be remembered by everyone, including those who are not yet born.
“Kian was a son of God. A son of God must always be
remembered. Let us name our children after him. Let us remember him in peace”,
Bacani said during a sermon.
Bacani is among well-known Catholic leaders in the
country, and like many other Catholic leaders, he also shared his own
controversy when President Rodrigo Duterte earlier accused him of having a
family – an accusation he strongly denied.
Parents of the slain teen had meet last week with the
President, but Bacani said an apology is not enough.
“People who caused him and his family harm should be
punished,” Bacani said referring to the PNP members who were involved in Kian’s
death.
Bacani later also asked churchgoers to give more
offerings in order to raise fund to fight Duterte’s war on drugs.
“If you gave P10 before, make it P20 today. Let us raise
funds to fight the evil in this country,” Bacani added.
Bacani’s call follow after Sen. Risa Hontiveros last week
said that she will submit a bill making August 26 a Kian Delos Santos Day. /Fanny Jalacjac/
