Opinion By Lisa Beltran - Iligan City
Pacquiao fans are still mourning after he lost to
Mayweather via a unanimous decision in a so called “fight of the century”. Others
are complaining for foul play, others are saying that the fight was cooked,
etc. Fans have their own excuses, especially those who are not really boxing
fans. Boxing fans by the way is far different from Pacfans. Pacfans doesn’t
really understand boxing and how does it work.
I am a boxing fan even before Pacquiao was known to the
boxing world. I wanted him to win, but what can I do when he fell short and his
style doesn’t match on that of Mayweather’s? Even they fight 2 to 10 more
times, the result will be the same. People will still get robbed if they pay
to see these two washed-up fighters spar inside the ring over and over again.
We saw that already with Marquez. We don’t want to see it happening again with
Mayweather. Style-wise, Pacquiao will never win against Mayweather period.
In boxing bravery is not important, but brain. Speed and
power is nothing if you have lower IQ and I must say Pacquiao has lower IQ than
Mayweather. It’s like watching Tyson and Holyfield. Holyfield used his brain and
defeated Tyson psychologically.
Frustrated fans are turning online with different kinds
of Mayweather memes just to satisfy themselves. Pacquiao on the other hand has
his excuses after the fight. Although Pacquiao lost, he should be smiling while
going to the bank. The real losers actually are the fans who paid a lot and got
disappointed after seeing the lousy fight.
Pacquiao’s Excuses
Shoulder Injury
Pacquiao only mentioned that he was suffering from
shoulder injury after the fight. No one would buy this kind of excuse. He said,
if he’s not in pain, he could have been defeated Mayweather. This only means
that he admitted that he lost.
Mayweather Played Dirty by Hugging
As I mentioned above, boxing uses mind control and IQ.
Hugging is not illegal and is one of the techniques so why complain? Let’s say Pacquiao’s
camp was not really prepared for this. Holyfield beat Tyson using this
technique,
Mayweather was Running
Like hugging, Mayweather used this technique to beat Pacquiao.
There is nothing to complain when you can’t catch your opponent because he is
better on dodging.
Mayweather is Coward and Didn't like to Engage at all
Well, boxing is not about courage and bravery. It’s all
about using your mind. Mayweather knows he can win without too much engagement
so why take risks?
The Fight was Rigged and Cooked and Mayweather was Favored to Win
This is not coming directly from Pacquiao’s mouth but
similar statement was heard from people around him. Only fool would believe
that the fight was rigged. Mayweather was more aggressive and hit more than
Pacquiao. It was very clear that Mayweather would win even without checking the
judges’ fight score cards.
According to respected and veteran TV analyst Teddy
Atlas, the fight, considered as the biggest fight in the history of boxing
could actually turn away real fans from boxing due to its disappointing result.
Two people was expected to fight to their best but what fans get was two people
chasing inside the ring doing lousy fight.
“"Why were they saying this was going to be World War
III? You don't say those things if you know it's not true," said Atlas.
"Why fabricate something if you know your fighter is limited? This fight
was good for boxing going into Saturday, but it didn't leave people with a good
feeling. It took the bloom off the rose.” Teddy Atlas.
Why don't we just accept the fact that Pacquiao lost in a competitive fight and he did not did his best to win by the way?
I say Pacquiao should retire and enjoy the billions of pesos he earned from this "disappointment of the century" fight.
