South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) to be renamed after Kris Aquino

05/16/2015 - Manila | President Benigno Aquino III is making sure his family legacy will last for a lifetime. After the Congress passes the bill renaming the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) to CAEX (Cory Aquino Expressway), the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) is set to have a new name after another Aquino family member.

Proponents who push the renaming of SLEX after Kris Aquino believe that the non-politician member of Aquino clan, and renowned TV personality “truly deserves” the honor.

The house committee is set to vote on Tuesday and lobbyists told The Philippine Pride that the bill “will likely to pass”.

The new name in honor of the presidential sister will be Kris Aquino South Expressway or KASEX.

The 51-kilometer express-way is the major access road to the Southern Tagalog and Bicol regions. Roro buses and cargo trucks that are travelling to Visayas and Mindanao islands also uses the 4-lane SLEX.

The new name  (KASEX) gained favourable reactions from motorists yesterday when a TPP reporter visited Calamba toll gate.

“OK lang na KASEX kasi bagay naman kay Kris. Medyo kwela nga e”, motorist Danny Olarte of Batangas said.

“I think it’s appropriate. Whatever the name, wala namang pagbabago sa pagdaan namin dito basta ba wag lang nilang taasan ang toll fee e, ok kami”, Tobias Arca from Quezon province told TPP.

“Ok lang, nakakaalis ng pagod pag may nakita akong “You are entering KASEX”, tapos “KASEX ends here”, a motorist from Rosario, Batangas said.

The Philippines under the younger Aquino administration has improved in many categories and transportation is one of them according to the latest Pulse Asia survey.
