Israel bars UN Rapporteur Agnes Callamard from entering Gaza Strip

Tel Aviv | More than a month after United Nations special rapporteur on extra judicial killings, Agnes Callamard made a controversial visit to the Philippines, another country has reacted to her meddling on foreign internal affairs.

Callamard, together with a dozen other people from various organizations tried to enter Gaza Strip, a Palestinian controlled territory bordering Israel.

Gaza has been the subject of major Palestinian and Israeli conflicts for decades, and complaints regarding the alleged human rights violations committed by Israel has prompted people like Callamard to get alarmed.

In the past, several people and groups have attempted to enter Gaza, including a flotilla several years ago which resulted to the death of several people.

On Monday, Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs said UN Rapporteur Agnes Callamard is not welcome to conduct her own investigation inside Gara Strip. The Jewish nation also warned Callamard of serious circumstances should she or her group insist to visit the strip.

The Philippine government condemned Callamard’s visit, and accused the UN official of conniving with Duterte’s political opponents and critics. /Sadik Livni/
